Pan Head De-Icing
Condensed Specification: Carbon Strip/Ice Cutter Heater System
This is the product portion of a specification for the RTR Carbon Strip/Ice
Cutter Heater System. For a complete specification that includes
installation and testing recommendations, contact RTR.
Part 1 - General
Furnish and install an RTR Carbon Strip/Ice Cutter Heater System complete
with terminated heating cable, installation accessories and controls.
Part 2 - Products

2.1: |
The
terminated heating cable shall be shown in RTR 306XXX Series
Drawings.

2.2: |
The heating
cable shall consist of two (2) 14 AWG nickel plated
copper buss wires embedded in parallel in a self-regulating polymer core.
Power output shall vary in response to temperature uniformity along its
entire length, allowing the cable to be crossed over on itself without
overheating.

2.3: |
The heating
cable shall be of parallel circuit construction.
|

2.4: |
The heating cable shall operate on (Select 480, 600. 750, 1500 VAC or VDC) without the use of transformers.

2.5: |
The heating
cable shall be 450V, 600V, or 750V or 1500V as manufactured by RTR.

2.6: |
The Carbon
Strip/Ice Cutter Heating System shall be controlled by
a relay, switch, thermostat or other controller through an appropriate contactor.

2.7: |
The heating
cable power terminations and end seals shall be factory fabricated as
described in RTR 802XXX Series Process Instructions. |
Part 3 - Installation

3.1: |
The heating
cable shall be installed in the Carbon Strip/Ice Cutter according to
the manufacturers recommendations, and installation
instructions.

3.2: |
The heating cable shall be installed only in Carbon Strip/Ice
Cutters which have been pre-qualified by RTR.
|
|
3.3: |
All steps
necessary to protect the heating cable assembly, terminations, cold
lead wires and installation accessories from mechanical damage during
installation shall be taken by the installer.

3.4: |
Heating
cable repairs shall be made using repair kits provided by the
manufacturer and specifically approved for the purpose. All
repaired heating cable assemblies shall pass the manufacturers
required Megger test after installation. |
Part 4 - Testing
After installation of the heating cable into the Carbon Strip/Ice Cutter,
the heating cable shall be tested for insulation resistance with a 2500Vdc
Megger. Minimum pass criteria: 1000 megohms ft.
